Having one single treatment or even 10 treatments will not eliminate all of your hair completely forever. 2 reasons for this; 1. Because not all of your hairs are in the same phase at the same time and 2. Regardless of how much laser anyone has, your body may continue to still grow some new hairs– hence the need for maintenance treatments. Laser hair removal is most effective when hair is in the Anagen phase, also known as the active growth phase.
Once hairs leave the Anagen phase, they transition into the Catagen phase, known as the transition phase which occurs every 1 to 2 weeks. Hairs them proceed to the Telogen phase also named the resting phase where the old hair falls out and new hair begins to grow. Unfortunately both the Catagen and Telogen phases result in significantly less effective treatment.
Unfortunately there is no way of determining what phase your hairs are in as they are all in different phases to one another and on the surface, they may all look the same. For this reason, it is impossible to guarantee permanent hair removal however, permanent hair reduction is achievable.
