Facial Hair and Laser Hair Removal

Today we are discussing facial hair on Women... More than 40% of our female clients are treated for facial hair. It can be extremely distressing but we are here to help! Here is an insight into some of the causes...
Facial hair for women can start in your early teens and progress through life. Laser hair removal is a revolutionary treatment and we love nothing more than to see our clients smiling again after a few treatments.
The most common causes for women’s facial hair are:

Family History
Excess facial and body hair may be related to your genes. If your mother or sister/s suffers with unwanted hair growth, unfortunately, you will most likely be prone to developing unwanted hair also.
Ethnicity
Sometimes your ethnicity may be the cause of your unwanted hair. Many of our European and Asian clients tend to have a greater amount of excess hair growth.
The nurses at LHR At The Bay and On Unley are trained in removing unwanted hair from all skin colours and types!

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
Some of our clients suffer from PCOS, which can commonly cause excessive hair growth as a result of too much testosterone. Other symptoms include irregular, painful and/or absent periods, increased body weight, acne and infertility.
Some clients are unaware of this condition prior to a visit in our clinic. Should one of our nurses suspect you may be suffering from PCOS, they may suggest you visit a Doctor. PCOS diagnosis and medication can only be assessed and managed by your doctor. But our nurses can certainly assist in the excess hair department!
As we have nurses who are medically trained attending to all consultations and treatments, you can be assured you are in safe hands.

Cushing's Syndrome
Cushing's Syndrome is a collection of hormonal disorders resulting from high levels of the hormone, cortisol. If you suffer from Cushing’s syndrome, your Doctor will advise you of necessary treatment. Our nurses can assist in managing the symptom of excessive hair growth.
Tumours
Excessive hair growth can also be a symptom of a benign or cancerous tumour. A tumour can cause excess testosterone in the system which often causes excess hair growth.

Medications
Some medications can also cause excess hair growth in women. This is often a result of increased testosterone in the body. Some of these medications are:
• Asdehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEA-S)
• Testosterone
• Danazol
• Anabolic steroids
• Phenytoin
• Minoxidil
• Diazoxide
• Cyclosporine
• Streptomycin
• Psoralen
• Penicillamine
• High-dose corticosteroids
• Metyrapone
• Phenothiazines
• Acetazolomide
• Hexachlorobenzene
